TELECOMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Did you know---Telecommunications Assistance Program, the Virginia Department for the Deaf of Hearing's Technology Assistance Program, is available right here in South Hill through Lake Country Area Agency on Aging? It is a great way to get equipment if you are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Some of the available equipment includes loud ringers, telephone amplifiers, voice carry-over telephones, and compact or full-size TTY's. Those who are visually disabled can get TTY's with large visual displays. Alertmasters are also available which can alert a deaf or hard of hearing person that the phone is ringing or someone's at the door by having a lamp blink. This equipment can be borrowed from LCAAA by calling the Case Management Department, Monday through Friday form 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. The application is very easy to fill out. If this equipment helps you, permanent equipment can be ordered that comes with a five year warranty. If you meet certain income guidelines, the equipment is free. If you have to pay the full contract price because of your income, it is significantly lower than the retail price. If you have purchased equipment from TAP in the past and needs repair, you can borrow equipment for up to 30 days while yours is being repaired.
Please call us if you think the equipment will help you, and we can come to your home to install it, or we can make an appointment for you to come in and talk with us about it.
